07-20-2011Only one whale we were watching today but he was a good one putting on a good show for the passengers on board our vessels today. It was probably the most beautiful ocean of the summer today with almost no wind, flat ocean and beautiful sunshine almost the entire day.
07-19-2011Our cruise boats were packed full of folks wanting to see the whales today as we ran morning into the later afternoon and the whales did not disappoint. It was a beautiful day as far as the ocean went with intermittent sunshine but light winds with calm seas. The whales were putting on great shows in their feeding cycles and several times they came right up next to the boats. We are by law requires to stay clear of the whales a certain distance but if they come up next to the boat it is OK. More good weather thru the week.
07-17-2011We saw whales again today on all our trips and they were close by down near the Cape Foulweather area. The report was the whales put on good shows for the folks and everyone had a great time with many Kodak moments. The summer is such a great time to whale watch and with the wind and rain out of the area now it is also a nice warm pleasant ride. Come on down and join us. We begin daily at 11am and run on the hour and a half until there is no one left to go.
07-16-2011The whales were down outside of Gull Rock today and put on a GREAT show as it was described by our whale watch boat today. We ran three afternoon trips out to see them and all were successful .
07-15-2011The whales in a little choppy water first off today were a little hard to find but then they re-appeared for the better part of the afternoon. Not quite as many around the area as a few days ago but fear not they will all be back.
07-14-2011It was not a real nice day out there today with wind and some rain in the air and the ocean was quite choppy. It appeared that it improved a little as the afternoon went on. The whales were probably a little difficult to find in all of that weather but I do believe I heard of some down around the Gull Rock area. That however is all that I know about todays action.
07-13-2011We ran whale trips right up to the 4pm hour today and had whales on every trip. Most of the day they were right out in front of the harbor so the passengers got a full hour of whale viewing and very little travel time. In the summer we run mostly 1-hr trips as the whales are so close and we are on them so quickly. For a larger group who want the 2-hr trip we still run them from time to time. The 2-hr trips are normally reserved for the winter and the spring migrations as they are further offshore and takes longer to get out to them. So today was another great day with the whales putting on good shows for the passengers.
07-12-2011Sometimes in the summer it is hard to think of things to say about the whale watching as it has been so good now for so long. It is like a broken record. It sure is nice to be able to take the folks out there and find the whales every day as it is something very special to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitat doing all those things that whales do. You never really get tired of seeing and watching them. It was great again today even though we had a little bit of liquid sunshine from time to time but the ocean was just as pleasant as it could be. Tomorrow just the same but with non-leaking sunshine.
07-11-2011The cruisers are sure out and about in very large numbers on the Tradewinds express cruise line with cruises most of the day into the late afternoon and beginning at the 11am hour. The whales are putting on really good shows as today they were south of Depoe Bay around 3-4 of them down around Gull Rock a mile or two south of the city. Great family fun with the Tradewinds whale watch express. You can call in for reservation or just show up at the Highway 101 office and we will put you on the boats. If we get too many for one boat we just call in another. Pretty cool flexibility huh???
07-10-2011Several hundred whale watchers out for TW whale viewing today on a bright sunny flat ocean day. The whales were North, they were South and then later in the afternoon they were right out front. It just gets better and better as we get deeper into summer. This has been a spectacular summer of whale watching so far. Come down and cruise with us as we try hard to give you the best trip that we know how.
