11-21-2011We have been lucky to have the schools of anchovy so close to shore and so late in the year. We continue to watch Humpbacks feeding near shore. Before too long it will be Gray Whale Season!
08-20-2011Saturday was ORCA Day!! We saw killer Whales on both trips! On the first trip we followed a family of 5 whales for over an hour. They had just eaten a Sea Lion! It was the wild nature at work for sure. Then we followed along watching them breach, spy hop, fluke up and pec slap almost as if they were celebrating a good meal. After watching the Black and Whites on the second trip we found Bottlenose Dolphin on the way home. It was a great Monterey Bay adventure today!
08-19-2011After watching more Dolphin right outside the harbor, we moved just another mile out into Monterey Bay and found a Humpback whale. We lost count of how many times it Breeched right next to the boat! It also did over a dozen peck slaps while swimming on its back. But the reapeated full arial breeches cannot be described to do what was seen true justice! It was an amazing show!
08-18-2011Thusday we had Bottlenose Dolphin (Flipper!) bow riding with the boat right outside the harbor for almost half an hour! there were over 20 of them!
08-16-2011On Tuesday, again it was a very short trip out into Monterey bay. Literally only 100 yards out of Santa Cruz Harbor the boat was immediately escorted by a dozen or so Bottlenose Dolphin! Then while heading to the mile bouy to see some Sea Lions we saw a Humpback Whale spout right in front of the boat. The Whale was lunge feeding on anchovy right at the surface, WoW! Then a Minke Whale Showed up! They are the smallest of all baleen whales. This all took place less than 1 mile from the harbor! Awsome day!
08-14-2011Sunday we found a Humpback Whale in only 25 feet of water! A 50 foot whale in only 25 feet of water is rare. It was feeding on anchovies in the far Northern Monterey Bay. You could have easily watched it from shore!
08-12-2011We saw the very same 2 Whales on Friday! They have been feeding in the same spot for days now. They love the nutrient rich Monterey Bay!
08-11-2011Thursdsay we saw 2 very cooperative Humpback Whales! They were fluking up on every dive!
08-09-2011Tuesday we saw 4 Killer Whales and Three Humpback Whales
08-07-2011Sundays trip was special. We saw different animals all over Monterey Bay! We saw Dall's Porpoise, Humpback Whales, Breeching Killer Whales and Bottlenose Dolphin right outside the harbor!
